Translating to “column” in Japanese, the Hashira Wall Lamp from Audo Copenhagen, formerly known as Menu, provides a soothing, welcoming presence, carrying the spirit of traditional Japanese washi paper lanterns. A familiar design with clean geometry in an east meets west aesthetic, Copenhagen-based Norm Architects’ ‘soft minimalist’ pieces showcase the beauty of pure, unadulterated form and function. The mounting plate is slender and low-profile, offering versatility in placement while the shade in front sports a linear framework that evokes a Japanese lantern’s bamboo framework. Crafted from a translucent linen material, the shade engulfs the light to reduce glare and transmit a golden glaze when turned on.
